Paulo Ferreira de Castro is a musicologist and Executive Coordinator of the Department of Musical Sciences, NOVA FCSH. As a researcher, he has published studies on musical meaning, intertextuality and aesthetic ideologies from the 19th to the 21st centuries. Former artistic Director of the São Carlos National Theater (1992-2000), where he was responsible for more than 60 operatic productions, from Monteverdi to Ligeti. In 1998, he founded the Lisbon International Festival of Contemporary Music.
